Maarten Kansen studied biology in Leiden, majoring in molecular biology. He obtained his doctorate at the medical faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam for research at the interface between biology, chemistry and physics. He later took a course at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences on environmental impact assessment. At KiM Maarten is an all-round researcher.
