Peer-to-peer car sharing in the Netherlands

Research by KiM Netherlands Institute for Transport Policy Analysis shows that some 7,000 peer-to-peer (P2P) shared cars are available for rent in the Netherlands. In this form of car sharing, private individuals rent out their cars through an online platform. In 2022, 5,615 of the 7,000 P2P shared cars were rented out at least once. In addition, there are still several tens of thousands of cars registered as P2P shared cars, but these were not available (anymore) to renters in 2022. Of the actively used P2P shared cars, 18% are rented out at least once every 2 weeks and 50% are rented out at least once every 2 months.
